Online Banking Security FAQ

The FECU offers straightforward and user-friendly security protection for accessing Online Banking by requiring a username, password, and additional credentials. We highly recommend that members use these options to provide additional protection on their accounts especially when using a public computer or shared device, an email has been compromised, or after being made aware of other cybersecurity issues.

SMS Validation Code

When accessing Online Banking from an unrecognized computer or device, the registered mobile number will receive text message validation codes* that replace the security question prompt. Registering a mobile phone number in Online Banking is required to allow this security permission.

1. Access online banking and open the “General” tab and select “Preferences” from the list. 
2. Open the “Registered Mobile Alert Number” section. 
3. Enter a mobile phone number and edit the alerts settings.
4. Click “Update Mobile” to save changes.

Authenticator Codes 

The online banking platform utilizes the Google Authenticator^® application. Users must enter their username, password, and a verification code generated by the app to access account information and perform specific functions in online banking and when using the mobile banking app. 

1. After downloading the Google Authenticator^® application log into online banking and open the “General” tab and select “Preferences” from the list. 
2. Open the “Registered Mobile Alert Number” section. 
3. Enter a mobile phone number and edit the alerts settings.
4. Click “Update Mobile” to save changes.
5. Select the “Authentication” section. 
6. Click “Create New Key” to connect your online banking access to Google Authenticator.
7. Follow the steps within the Google Authenticator application by scanning the QR code or manually entering the information.
8. Going forward online banking will require entering the six-digit verification code generated in Google Authenticator

The Google Authenticator app is free and available on Android, iOS/Apple, BlackBerry, or Windows mobile devices. Search “Google Authenticator” to download and use the app.
