Mobile Wallet FAQ
Cardholders can now add the FECU debit card and credit card to their mobile wallet app. Payment details are saved and encrypted for a safer, faster, and touch-free payment option. This can be handy if you want to stop by a store while out exercising, or if you just want to leave your purse or wallet at home while you attend a concert or head to the beach. Apple Pay©, Samsung Pay©, and Google Pay© are examples of mobile wallet apps that can be installed on your mobile device.
Security
Mobile wallets offer better security than swiping your physical debit or credit cards. Your actual card number isn’t used when you use a mobile wallet. Instead, the mobile wallet creates an encrypted number to complete the transaction. Mobile wallet apps also add an extra layer of protection because you need to provide a personal identification format, such as a PIN, fingerprint or face recognition to access them.
Payment
You can use your mobile wallet app to pay wherever contactless payments are accepted. When you tap and pay in stores it’s automatically charged just like a regular payment.
When adding your FECU credit cards or debit cards you may be asked to verify it. This step helps the mobile wallet and FECU protect your account. Your verification code comes from FECU not the mobile wallet. The verification code is sent to the email or phone number listed on your FECU account profile.
- Check for the Contactless Symbol at the checkout.
- Open your app and select a card.
- Place your device within 1 to 2 inches of the checkout terminal.
- Follow the prompts.
- The payment is securely processed and authorized.
- A confirmation appears on the device’s screen or it will vibrate.
Selecting Debit or Credit
If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions when asked for a PIN or signature to complete the purchase.
Debit: Enter the PIN that you set up for the card. This PIN is different from the one you use to unlock your device.
Credit: Sign the on-screen signature box or the receipt to authorize the transaction.
Control Settings
Some devices, phone plans, apps, and settings may require users to have permissions given through parental controls or may have limits for juvenile users.
Some users may be limited to the number of cards that can be added to their mobile wallet depending on the app and device. After you add a new payment method, you may be asked to verify it. This step helps the mobile wallet and FECU protect your account.
Fix a Problem
"Can't connect" & freezes:
Hold your phone closer to the payment reader. Turn on your screen, then unlock your phone. Make sure your phone's Bluetooth is on and remove the screen lock.
"Can't check accounts" when you open the app:
Open the App Store then select the Mobile Wallet app and click update.
Loading circle doesn't stop:
Close the wallet app on your device and open it again. If that doesn't work, restart by holding down the phone’s Power button. Near-field communication (NFC) must be turned on to make contactless payments. Check your phone settings to turn on NFC.
If there’s a checkmark but the cashier says that the payment didn’t work:
Ask the cashier if the store accepts contactless payments. If they don’t, you must use a physical card. If the transaction is declined, you aren’t charged. Contact FECU if there continues to be an issue with your card and your transactions are declined. There may be a fraud alert or freeze on your card.
